2006 Berenice Abbott Honorable Mention:
Orin Rutchick

Orin Rutchick’s Push Button Memories: Landmarks Worldwide Project starts out with one fundamental certitude: all over the world, and at certain places in particular, people are at this moment taking pictures of themselves and their surroundings. The Push Button Memories Project is intimate in its focus, and global in its vision.  Through the simple act of taking a photograph, an essential aspect of our humanness is illuminated; an aspect that crosses the cultural, ethnic, national and other boundaries that appear to divide us.

Orin, from Minneapolis, Minn., received his BFA from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design and after 24 years as a photographer, designer, and art director is devoting himself to photography full time. His work has been collected by the George Eastman House and his Push Button Memories: Landmarks Worldwide project is scheduled to be part of a curated exhibit in 2007 at the Frederic R. Weisman Museum in Minneapolis, Minnesota titled Walt Whitman: The Democratization of Art. (www.pushbuttonmemories.com)
