Train Travel Through Peru with Julia Dean

Join us in Peru on a train trip to remember. We’ll begin in Lima, Peru’s historic capital, where we’ll roam the streets of this bustling modern city before proceeding on to Machu Pichu, the lost Inca city. Here we’ll stay for one night so we can experience sunrise at this well-known archaeological site. The trip continues to Puno, a small port town that allows the group a trip by boat to the islands of Uros and Taquile on Lake Titicaca.

From place-to-place, the train winds through unforgettable Peruvian countryside stopping in places such as the town of Juliaca, known as La Ciudad Rosada (the Pink City) for its pink-colored buildings. There are other unforgettable stops and experiences before making it back to Lima.

Like many of our travel workshops, we encourage participants to come up with a project that they can focus on throughout the week, whether it is to document the country’s architecture, to shoot with a pinhole camera, or to do portraits of those met on the street. Our objective is to come away with photographs that develop a theme rather than merely serve as stand-alone travel pictures.

Each day will divided between traveling, shooting, critiques, private consultations, and (optional) lectures on various topics. For those photographers shooting with digital cameras, we’ll edit along the way. For those shooting film, we will get it processed as we can.

The results of this workshop will be exhibited at the Julia Dean Gallery with an opening reception.
