Ever looked at an image and wondered how the photographer achieved the lighting? Using studio lighting creatively can help convey moods and emotions in a subject which aid the photographer in achieving his or her vision. In this intensive one-day workshop, we will explore various studio lighting techniques to help photographers realize this vision. We begin by learning the basics of studio lighting. Hands-on demonstrations will include the technical use of strobes and light shapers such as soft boxes, umbrellas, beauty dishes, ring flash, grids and gels. Moving outdoors, we will also learn how to incorporate ambient light to generate different moods – all in effort to achieve a unique, personal vision.

All participants will have a chance to handle the equipment and shoot. Models will be provided. Students should bring their own camera (digital or film), if they have one. The goal is to provide each student with the tools and experience necessary to grasp the art of studio lighting.
